Nuwan is an experienced commercial litigator, with a focus on class actions, financial services litigation, insurance disputes and contract disputes across various sectors.

Before coming to the Bar, Nuwan was a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution practice group at Herbert Smith Freehills. He was also an associate to Justice Kyrou of the Victorian Court of Appeal and Justice Anderson of the Federal Court of Australia.

During his seven years at Herbert Smith Freehills, Nuwan specialised in class actions and other complex commercial disputes. Nuwan was previously seconded to National Australia Bank.

Nuwan has authored a number of publications on contract law. He is also the author of the third edition of Lewis & Kyrou’s Handy Hints on Legal Practice, which he authored with Justice Kyrou.

Nuwan has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (first class honours) from the University of Melbourne. He also has a Master of Laws from Harvard University.

Nuwan is reading with Banjo McLachlan. His senior mentor is David Batt KC.
