Neil has an extensive commercial law practice, with substantial experience in corporations law, banking and finance, competition, taxation, mining and energy law and intellectual property.
Neil practises in all jurisdictions, appearing regularly in the High Court, the Full Federal Court and State Courts of Appeal, in particular in Victoria, New South Wales (he maintains chambers in Sydney with New Chambers) and Western Australia.
Neil was Chairman of the Victorian Bar in 1997 and 1998, and President of the Australian Bar Association in 1999. In 2005 Neil was appointed as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia, resigning in 2007 to return to private practice.
