David Heaton
David has recently moved from Brick Court Chambers at the London Bar to the Victorian Bar. He practises in commercial law, international arbitration, public law and competition.
David has regularly appeared and advised in commercial disputes and heavy commercial litigation before the English courts and in arbitrations, in public law matters both for claimants and defendants, and in competition law matters.
Before coming to the Victorian Bar, David was an associate to the Hon Justice Kenneth Hayne AC at the High Court of Australia (2010–2011), a solicitor at Mallesons in 2010, and an associate at the Boston Consulting Group (2012–2013). He completed pupillage at Brick Court Chambers in London (a “magic circle” set) in 2015–2016, signed the UK bar roll in 2015 and has since practised there as a barrister/tenant.

David has degrees in arts (with a major in German) and law and a Diploma in Modern Languages (Indonesian) from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Civil Laws and Master in Philosophy from the University of Oxford. His MPhil thesis examined the legal basis of the power of government to make contracts. He studied at St John’s College in Oxford.
David received the Supreme Court Prize in the LLB, ranking first in his class (2009), and various subject prizes. He studied at Oxford as a Menzies Scholar and received the Clifford Chance Civil Procedure Prize in the BCL.
David is admitted as a Barrister at the Bar of England and Wales. He maintains a tenancy at Brick Court Chambers in London.
