The Attorney-General Martin Pakula MP announced on 3 August 2017 that List A member Timothy Goodwin, a member of the Yuin people, has been appointed to review the process whereby Traditional Owner groups demonstrate their traditional and cultural association to country and negotiate and enter into agreements under the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 (Vic) (“the Act”).
Mr Goodwin’s role will be to interview Traditional Owners and professionals with experience of the process. He will then deliver a report to the Andrews Labor Government which will recommend improvements to the process to make it as efficient as possible for Traditional Owner groups who are seeking to negotiate native title claims under the Act.
