The members and staff at List A Barristers congratulate Justice Michael Sifris on his appointment to the Court of Appeal and Katie Stynes and Jim Delany QC on their appointments to the Trial Division of the Supreme Court.
Justice Sifris was appointed to the Trial Division of the Supreme Court in 2010 and currently sits in the Commercial Court. Since 2016, he has served as the Judge in Charge of the Corporations List, presiding over many complex and high-profile cases. He was admitted to practice in Victoria in 1987 and signed the Victorian Bar Roll in 1989. He was a founding member of List A in 1990. Justice Sifris was appointed Senior Counsel in 2002 and was chairman of List A from 2009 to 2010.
Katie came to the Bar in March 2005, prior to which she was a Senior Associate at Minter Ellison where she practised in the areas of corporate, insurance and construction law. She joined List A in 2016.
Katie Stynes has developed a considerable body of work acting for principals and contractors in relation to a range of infrastructure, engineering and construction projects. Her expertise has been recognised by Doyle’s Guide where she is regarded as a preeminent leading Australian construction and infrastructure junior counsel.
Jim Delany QC was first admitted to practice in 1980, signed the Bar Roll in 1985 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2003. He joined List A Barristers in 1985 and was Chairman of the List from 2010 to 2013.
Jim Delany QC practised in all Australian jurisdictions and in arbitrations but predominantly appeared in the Federal and Supreme Courts and the Court of Appeal. He also appeared at the Financial Services Royal Commission in 2018 and at the Aged Care Royal Commission in 2019.
Justice Sifris and Jim Delany QC will commence their terms from today, while Katie Stynes will take up her role from 22 June 2020.
